4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Maharashtra's Amravati

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake shook Maharashtra's Amravati district on monday afternoon, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremor occurred at 1:37 PM, with its epicenter near Amzhari and Tetu villages in the Chikhaldhara taluka, at a shallow depth of 13 km.

Impact and Reports
Despite the quake, no casualties or property damage have been reported. Anil Bhatkar, the resident deputy collector of Amravati, confirmed that the tremors were felt in several areas including Chikaldhara, Katkumbh, Churni, Pachdongri, and parts of the Melghat region.

Additional mild tremors were also experienced in Paratwada city and Dharni, as well as in some villages in the neighboring Akola district, such as Rudhadi, Khirkund, and Primpi Jainpur.

Seismological Insights
Shallow earthquakes like this one tend to be felt more intensely than deeper ones due to their proximity to the surface. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) indicated that while the quake was light, it was likely felt by many residents due to the weak vibrations it caused. Areas like Achalpur, approximately 27 km from the epicenter, might have experienced mild shaking.

Overall, the incident has raised awareness of seismic activity in the region, but authorities report no cause for alarm at this time.
