The classification of Non-Resident indians (NRIs) as Overseas Citizens of india (OCIs) has become increasingly challenging by the indian government. The decision has been a significant setback for the indian diaspora, with many feeling let down. indians living abroad are required by the new requirements to present further proof of their indian ancestry. This involves further identification verification and documentation of their indian citizenship through their parents and grandparents.

This implies that NRIs who previously enjoyed the same rights as indian citizens run the risk of being labeled as "foreign nationals." They will no longer have unrestricted access to india and will need to get permission in the same manner as other foreign visitors. While supporting the indian economy, NRIs have frequently served as a conduit between india and the outside world. This is the reason, in light of the recent verdict, people feel deceived by the indian government.

To make the policy more accessible to them, the community is calling for a review and revision. For indian people, applying for citizenship and visas overseas is already a difficult procedure; they shouldn't have to go through it again at home.
