Naga chaitanya responded to Konda Surekha's derogatory comments with a post claiming that the divorce was mutual between two mature adults. In his statement, he never even mentioned Samantha's name and just addressed her as 'Former Spouse' and this enraged the fans of Samantha. One of the netizens commented, "Former spouse," "earlier spouse" anything but saying her actual name. Respect so deep that he threw her to the wolves who have shamed her in every possible way."

Actor naga Chaitanya's father, telugu film icon nagarjuna Akkineni, has filed a complaint against telangana Environment minister Konda surekha for making "defamatory (and) derogatory" remarks over his son's divorce from fellow actor samantha Ruth Prabhu. By accusing KT Rama Rao of Bharat Rashtra Samithi of manipulating naga chaitanya and Samantha's divorce by seducing the latter into a drug habit and using blackmail to get it, Konda surekha stirred much controversy.
 
In a complaint filed in Hyderabad's nampally district, nagarjuna complained the congress leader, while "fully aware" of the false nature of her statements, "deliberately spread these allegations with the sole intention of damaging the complainant's personal, professional, and familial reputation...""The statement was made with the malicious intent of conveying falsehoods to the public at large, intending to cause harm to the complainant and his family reputation for political gain and sensationalism..." According to the complaint, "The above actions constitute a criminal offence..."
