Say you've established a house and a bright future for your family in the United States. Your partner works to help fund everything, and you have a mortgage and daycare expenses. The security of your visa is suddenly taken away from you along with your work. This family is currently experiencing just that. Her spouse, who holds an H1B visa, lost his job last week. The time is running out.

The family might be in significant danger if he doesn't find a new employment within the next sixty days. For the time being, his wife, who is employed on an H4 visa with an EAD, is permitted to continue working; however, this permission is limited to the 60-day notice period.

The tension? It's too much. With a 4-year-old child to look after, a mortgage to pay, and no interviews scheduled, the family is unsure if they will need to leave the nation they have lived in for a number of years. What choices do they have? They are considering a variety of options, such as sending the wife and kid back to india while the husband stays behind to look for employment, or filing for a change of status to a tourist visa (B2), which would keep them in the country but prevent them from working.

Many immigrant families with work permits fear this terrible fate. They have established themselves, formed relationships, and given back to their communities—only to have everything taken away from them. Anyone who has struggled with the US immigration system or has ever worried about losing everything because of a job loss will be able to relate to this narrative. It serves as a reminder of how rapidly life may flip upside down and how brittle visa status can be.
