The H1B visa issue is a 'thing of the past' says piyush Goyal
With the announcement that the H-1B visa will no longer be discussed in foreign forums, Union minister of Commerce and industry piyush Goyal signaled a dramatic change in India's economic policy.
Goyal made this declaration at a conference held at Vanijya Bhavan in New Delhi, where he discussed the nation's emphasis on forming strategic alliances outside of the conventional visa-related domain.
Goyal made these comments after visiting the US and spending two days in New York City talking with CEOs of large corporations.
The main topic of debate was the changes that prime minister Narendra Modi's administration had put in place to attract more foreign investment in india, namely in the diamond and pharmaceutical industries.
The diamond industry's major hub, Surat, was emphasized as a vital location for investment potential.
Goyal spoke with about thirty business executives who were already working in india during his visit, and they expressed a strong desire to grow their businesses.
Following his trip to New York, he proceeded to Washington, D.C., where he met over lunch with seventeen CEOs, including senior officials from Tata Sons, as part of the CEO forum.
Restructuring the CEO forum was on the agenda because the tenure of some of the members is ending in December. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to reaffirm the intention to improve commercial relations between the united states and India.
Goyal's visit included meetings at the Centre for Strategic and international Studies (CSIS), as well as talks with think tanks, educators, and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
He made a point of saying that this visit was different from the others since it had no "negative agendas," which reflected a more positive view of Indo-US ties.
