Prime minister Narendra Modi reminded Chinese President Xi jinping on wednesday that the two nations should prioritize preserving peace and stability along the border, praising the recent deal to end the dispute. The first official encounter between the two presidents in five years took place in Kazan, Russia, on the fringes of the Brics Summit.

Prime minister Modi stated that "mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity will guide bilateral relations" and that "we believe the India-China relationship is very important not only for our people but also for global peace, stability, and progress."

The last time PM Modi and President Xi met was in october 2019, against the backdrop of the Panch Ratha monument from the 7th century at Mamallapuram, tamil Nadu.

The two countries decided on monday to start patrolling again at strategic places of contention along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh, which will "lead to disengagement." Today's meeting in Kazan and the border breakthrough, which came about after weeks of difficult discussions, have sparked optimism that the two countries' bilateral relations, which had collapsed following a fatal encounter between their armies in june 2020 in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh, will improve.

PM Modi posted, "Met President Xi jinping on the sidelines of the Kazan BRICS Summit. India-China relations are important for the people of our countries and for regional and global peace and stability. Mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity will guide bilateral relations."

According to the administration, the two global leaders' conversation included topics related to restoring and stabilizing bilateral ties.

According to a Ministry of External Affairs statement, prime minister Modi and President Xi decided to fully utilize the diplomatic channels that are currently in place, including discussions at the level of foreign ministers, in order to resolve difficulties and improve collaboration.

"The two leaders affirmed that stable, predictable, and amicable bilateral relations between india and China, as two neighbours and the two largest nations on earth, will have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity," according to the MEA.

XI CALLS FOR MORE COMMUNICATION
"It's important for both sides to have more communication and cooperation, properly handle our differences and disagreements, and to facilitate each other's pursuit of development aspirations. It's also important for both sides to shoulder our international responsibility, set an example for boosting the strength and unity of developing countries and to contribute to promoting multi-polarization and democracy in international relations," Xi jinping said.
