A tragedy clouded Priyanka gandhi Vadra's official debut in indian politics. The terror incident in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, forced her to quickly cancel her first planned news conference on february 14, 2019. Since then, she has avoided public news briefings in favor of acting as a savvy behind-the-scenes operator. Five years after submitting her candidacy as a congress candidate on october 23, priyanka is scheduled to directly enter the political arena by running for the wayanad by-election, which her brother Rahul gandhi left vacant.

This judgment has significant ramifications both inside and outside of Congress. It would be historic if priyanka prevailed since all three of the gandhi family's politically engaged members—Priyanka, Rahul, and their mother, sonia Gandhi—would all be serving in parliament at the same time. The balance of power in the congress, where the Gandhis have long been the main pillars, is called into doubt by this extraordinary situation.

This action is interpreted inside the party as a reaffirmation of the gandhi family's dedication to upholding its political power and legacy. Rahul's plan to establish a gandhi presence in both North and South india and expand the party's national appeal is demonstrated by his decision to leave wayanad and keep Rae Bareli. In addition to running from a seat, priyanka is entering a strategically significant area that has been a congress bastion, particularly after Rahul's victory in 2019 cemented the party's presence there amid a time of severe election reverses.

This choice is not without its difficulties, though. The bjp has used Priyanka's candidacy as justification for its long-standing criticism of the congress for its "dynastic politics." Her arrival has already been presented by bjp officials as a continuation of the party's purported nepotistic policies. The congress has always benefited and suffered by the gandhi name, but Priyanka's success or failure will serve as a barometer for the party's attempts to change. Therefore, the congress needs to make sure that her participation is interpreted as a sincere attempt to provide new leadership to the party rather than merely as an extension of a political dynasty.

Thanks to a sizable base of Muslim and Christian voters who support the United Democratic Front (UDF), wayanad has been a congressional stronghold. The absence of a full-time mp who can handle area issues like healthcare shortages and human-animal conflict, however, has drawn criticism locally. Rahul's relationship with wayanad was aloof, according to the constituency's critics, and there is concern that Priyanka's may be no different. Loyalty to the gandhi family endures in spite of these misgivings, and this might be a deciding factor in the by-election.
