The 16th BRICS summit is going to be held from 22 to 24 october under the chairmanship of Russia. Meanwhile, china was seen clearly avoiding questions asked on monday (October 21) about a possible meeting of Modi-Xi during the summit. In fact, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, while answering a question at a press conference here, said, "If anything comes up, we will inform you." prime minister Modi and Xi jinping are participating in the BRICS summit starting on tuesday in Kazan, Russia.

Ahead of prime minister Modi's visit to Kazan, Foreign Secretary vikram Misri said in New delhi on monday that negotiators of india and china have reached an agreement on patrolling the Line of Actual Control (LoC) in eastern Ladakh. There has been no response from beijing yet on the agreement announced by Misri. Relations between india and china soured after the fierce clash in the Galwan Valley in june 2020. This clash is considered to be the most serious military conflict between the two countries in the last several decades.

china announced last friday that Xi would attend the BRICS summit in Russia, where he would work with other parties to usher in a new era to achieve solidarity for the 'Global South'. Economically less developed countries or developing countries are usually called the 'Global South'. BRICS originally included Brazil, Russia, india, china and South Africa. Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, saudi arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been included as new members. The theme of this year's summit is "Strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security."

Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said Xi would participate in small-group and large-group meetings, 'BRICS Plus' dialogue and also put forward his important views. He said Xi will also have in-depth exchange of views with other leaders on the international scenario, BRICS practical cooperation, development of BRICS mechanisms and important issues of mutual interests. He said china is willing to work with other parties to strive for sustainable development of cooperation among BRICS countries, so as to usher in a new era for the Global South to gain strength through solidarity and jointly promote world peace and development.
