Reportedly with gangster lawrence Bishnoi grabbing the headlines again in connection with former maharashtra minister baba siddique murder case, the pune police have started a drive against the youth posting images and keeping their profile pictures of gangsters on their social media accounts out of admiration for the gangsters. The police have been monitoring the social media accounts after several cases of some youngsters threatening in the name of Bishnoi were reported.
As per report a well-known jeweller, a reporter and a civilian were threatened via emails and messages in the gangster’s name last week. A youngster from Khadak had kept Bishnoi’s image as DP on his social media account. Joint police commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma has told the national daily that the police are taking action against all those involved in using the gangsters’ images and threatening people for extortion.
Moreover Additional commissioner of police (crime) Shailesh Balkawade has said the police were counselling youngsters who keep their profile pictures of gangsters like lawrence Bishnoi and Dawood Ibrahim. He told “Often, these youths are from poor families impressed by reels or short videos of gangsters and their aides on social media”. sandesh Borde, a social worker with Pimpri Chinchwad police, also highlighted that gang members often bail these minors out of juvenile homes and treat them well, making such kids believe that the criminals care for them more than anyone else, thus winning their loyalty.
