The story of the jiohotstar.com name took an unexpected turn when Jainam and Jivika, two young siblings from the United Arab Emirates, asserted ownership of the website. The domain has changed hands amid family concerns and growing attention. It was first purchased by a Delhi-based developer who planned to capitalize on the site's potential following a merger between JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar.

In order to finance his desire to attend Cambridge University, the developer had been requesting ₹1 crore from reliance Industries as of friday morning. Self-described as “a dreamer,” he stated his intention but acknowledged that reliance had not responded formally and that he was reluctant to file a lawsuit. He then wrote, "My parents are very worried," expressing his worries about family pressure. Managing a court case is one thing, but coping with anxious parents is another.

Later that day, the developer's messages vanished, to be replaced with a touching letter from siblings Jivika and Jainam, who live in the United Arab Emirates. In their speech, they talked about how they learned and shared compassion with children in india via a Seva initiative, teaching them the value of education and goal-setting. "When we returned to Dubai, we used a portion of our collection to support a young software developer from delhi by purchasing this domain for his benefit," the couple said in an explanation of how they came to own the domain. In their message, they discussed intentions to continue using the website as a platform to spread compassion while keeping it accessible to prospective future customers.

Some Reddit users conjectured that the domain would eventually be unrelated to Reliance's objectives, while others made predictions about the new domain owners and the company's future goals. Others questioned its worth, saying that a lower sale price may bring in about ₹10 lakh. Others proposed that other URLs, such as Jiostar.com, might be better.
