Recently at least 10 big hotels in Lucknow, including the Marriott, Fortune Park BBD and The Piccadilly, received a bomb threat via email on Sunday. The sender demanded a sum of $55,000 (Rs 46 lakh approx) as ransom and said explosives were inside a “black bag on the ground floor”. According to sources, the bomb threat was sent to Marriott, Fortune Park BBD, Saraca Hotel, The Piccadilly, Comfort Hotel Vista, Clerk Awadh, Dayal Gateway, Hotel Sylvette among others.

Perhaps the email said a bomb was kept in a black bag on the ground floor. The sender demanded $55,000 (Rs 46 lakh) as ransom and, if this was not fulfilled, the bomb will be detonated. The email further warned that an attempt to defuse the bomb will also detonate it. The email stated “I want $55,000, or I will detonate the explosives and blood will spread everywhere. Any attempt at defusing the bombs WILL detonate them”. The sender asked the hotels to contact them for ransom payment on “primary email address: shaikha.nasser20077@gmail.com”.

Moreover this comes after repeated hoax bomb threats issued to several flights over the past few days. Airline carriers have been plagued by such threats mostly over social media that have caused numerous disruptions, including delays and passenger inconvenience. The central government is planning to introduce strict amendments to civil aviation safety laws to bring the culprits to book, including punishment ranging from life imprisonment term to being put on no-fly list.
