Customers were incensed when swiggy and zomato increased their platform fees to ₹10 right before Diwali. During the holiday season, many people were left wondering why this money grab occurred. Everything is already pricey—vegetables, meals, memberships, and now this? said one irate user on X. To emphasize their argument, they also included #CancelSwiggy as a bookend to their tweet.

On october 23, zomato was the first to increase its platform charge, stating that it was necessary to manage the "festive rush." Soon after, its competitor raised their cost to ₹10 as well. For months now, the platform costs for both delivery applications have been increasing gradually. zomato began for ₹2 in august and has already climbed fivefold in only a few months.

Users are not helped by even the premium membership, which provides no exemption from this obligatory fee. Individuals must now pay these absurd platform fees in addition to the GST, packaging, and shipping expenses they currently pay. Given how many orders swiggy and zomato will already receive around Diwali, it appears to be a stingy attempt to extract more cash from us. These price increases have made the holiday season more difficult rather than easier.
