According to a CBC story that quoted officials, a Canadian police officer was suspended for taking part in a pro-Khalistan demonstration outside a Hindu temple in Brampton. While other protesters screamed anti-Indian sentiments, the suspended police officer, named as Harinder Sohi, was seen on camera waving a Khalistan flag. Sohi worked for the Peel Regional police as a Sergeant.
 
According to Peel Regional police, they were aware of the video that was making the rounds and showed an off-duty cop taking part in the protest. richard Chin, a media relations officer, informed CBC that the officer had been suspended in line with the Community Safety and Policing Act.
 
Additionally, he stated that the agency is looking into the facts surrounding this occurrence and would provide more information after the investigation is finished.
 
The news coincides with the continuing controversy after the sunday attack by Khalistani militants on the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton. In addition to fighting with visitors at the temple, protesters with Khalistani flags also interrupted a consular gathering that the indian Consulate and temple administrators had co-organized.
 
Videos of fistfights and people hitting each other with flagpoles on what looked to be the temple's grounds have been making the rounds on social media.
 
Prime minister Narendra Modi took serious notice of the "deliberate attack" and demanded that the Justin Trudeau-led Canadian government be held accountable. He also anticipated that the government will protect the rule of law and provide justice.
 
The minister of External Affairs (MEA), meantime, stated that it is still "deeply concerned" about the safety and security of indian citizens in canada and that it anticipates that those who engage in violent behavior would face consequences.
