The language lineup on New York's 2024 presidential ballot is generating interest. One indian language, which is not the one most people would expect, has made its way onto the ballot in a city where more than 200 languages are spoken. Along with other widely spoken languages in the Big apple and throughout the world, bengali has become the sole indian language to appear on the ballots for the 2024 US presidential election.

The work to serve these neighborhoods was emphasized by Michael J. Ryan, Executive director of the Board of elections in New York City, who emphasized that voting accessibility goes beyond symbolism.

Bengali is the only indian language on NY’s election ballot
Vice President Kamala harris and former President trump are in a close race with one day to go before the US presidential elections. New York, a city renowned for its dynamic, multinational populace, has added four more languages to its voting papers in addition to english in anticipation of the big day. In addition to Chinese, Spanish, and Korean, bengali is the sole indian language among them.

Bengali-born sales agent Subhshesh, who works in Times Square, said he was thrilled to be included. He mentioned that this linguistic support will be helpful to his father, who resides in Queens. While many members of our community feel more at ease speaking their native tongue, others, like me, are fluent in English. At the polling place, this will undoubtedly be helpful. Subhshesh remarked, "I'm sure my father will appreciate seeing a bengali ballot."
