Kamalji's 70th birthday!
Isn't that unbelievable? He still possesses the quickness and energy of a twenty-year-old. Look at him in Vikram, please. I felt elderly because of him.
You've been a fan all along?
I revere him as a hero. Since I started acting, I've admired him and wanted to make the kind of films he creates, taking the same emotional and physical risks.
He once admitted to me that he had 34 broken bones.
I'm not shocked. What an explorer Kamal ji is. For him, film is more than just acting. It's about providing access to experiences that defy classification.
Remember when you met him for the first time?
I do, of course. We got together for a movie that priyadarshan was slated to helm. I was quite thrilled. Every member of my family adores him. Unfortunately, that initiative never materialized. However, we collaborated on the movie Anbe Sivam a bit later. It was a road movie that Kamal ji wrote. I wrote the dialogue. Even just observing him at work taught me a great deal.
When you were facing the camera with him, did you forget your lines?
Luckily, no. I didn't feel like a stranger because he put me at ease. One of the most giving co-stars I've ever worked with is Kamal ji.
Is he someone you would call a friend?
I'd be thrilled to. Even still, our meetings are less frequent these days. There is unwavering affection and respect for one another. Both of us, I believe, are motivated by the need to never stop looking for new summits to reach. The pinnacle of brilliance has been attained by Kamal ji. From here, I have no idea where he will go.
