Reportedly donald trump scripted history as he became the first Republican in two decades to win the popular vote in a US Presidential Poll. The former and the next US President became the first Republican leader to achieve this feat since George W. Bush in 2004. Bush had secured 62,040,610 votes and 286 electoral votes in the 2004 elections fighting against Democratic candidate john Kerry who got 59,028,444 votes and 251 electoral votes.

Meanwhile former US President barack obama received the most significant popular vote victory in the last 20 years when he got 69.5 million votes (52.9%) and 365 electoral votes in 2008. His re-election campaign, though successful, witnessed a slight decline to 51.1% of the popular vote, winning 332 electoral votes. He won not only the crucial swing states of north carolina and georgia but also the challenging battleground of pennsylvania which harbours 19 electoral college votes.

Moreover his victory in pennsylvania and other swing states put him much ahead in the race to the White House. As the counting of votes progressed further late in the evening (local time), Kamala harris failed to find momentum despite putting up a good show in Democratic strongholds.
