Pager Blast: Israeli PM admits he approved pager attacks...
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu on sunday (November 10) admitted he approved pager attacks on Hezbollah. Netanyahu said the action was taken for security purposes. However, he did not give much information on the whole matter. About 40 people were killed and 3,000 Iran-backed Hezbollah members were injured in the pager attacks on september 17.
Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's spokesman Omar Doostari told news agency, "Netanyahu admitted on sunday that he had given the green signal to the pager operation in Lebanon." Thousands of pagers exploded in Hezbollah's hideouts for two consecutive days on september 17 - for which iran and Hezbollah blamed Israel. Pagers were used by Hezbollah members to communicate with each other and also to avoid Israeli location-tracking.
40 people were killed in pager blasts
About 40 people were killed and more than three thousand were injured in pager blasts in Lebanon. These attacks took place before Israel's ongoing military action in Lebanon. After these pager attacks, for some time Hezbollah did not understand what was happening. Later Hezbollah issued a statement blaming israel for this attack and talked about taking revenge.
The pager was hacked by Mossad
According to AFP report, to avoid Israeli attacks, Hezbollah leader Nasrallah had advised his organization's leaders not to use mobile phones, but he did not know that his enemy Israel has an intelligence agency like Mossad. The pager was also hacked by Mossad and it was blown up. Earlier this week, lebanon filed a complaint with the United Nations labour agency over the attack, calling it a "horrific war against humanity".
