Reportedly in a shocking incident of corporal punishment, a headmistress of a government school in thanjavur, tamil Nadu, has been accused of taping students’ mouths shut as punishment for talking in class. Five fourth standard students, including one girl, were allegedly found with pieces of broken tape in their mouths at a government primary school. The incident took place at Ayyampatti village, near Orathanadu town in the thanjavur district.

Perhaps following the incident, the students’ parents lodged a complaint with the thanjavur district Collector. Meanwhile, the school’s headmistress and the district officer of the elementary school denied the allegations. The incident allegedly took place in the school on october 21. It has been claimed that the childrens’ mouths were kept taped for four hours which led to breathing problems.

Moreover elementary school district officer Matiyazhakan said the headmistress had to take care of the class due to the teacher’s absence. He stated that the headmistress had no role in the incident and the children taped each other’s mouths. He informed that a probe has been ordered. Punitha, the school’s headmistress, responded to the allegations, stating that she had no involvement in the incident. She claimed the children applied the tape on themselves while playing, and someone took their photograph and circulated it.
