If humans vanished due to natural disasters like war or climate catastrophe, an intriguing new study has shown which creatures may take over the planet. The study claims that marine invertebrates, especially octopuses, possess the "physical and mental attributes necessary" to become the next dominant species that may establish a civilization.

These animals might survive without humans because of their exceptional adaptability and highly developed cognitive capacities.

According to the Daily Mail, the study indicates that octopuses are the most likely to inherit the Earth and eventually establish their own civilization, similar to that of humans, because of their intellect, complex behaviors, and capacity to endure in a variety of settings.

While octopuses' ascension is hypothetical, evolution is unpredictable, and it's unclear which species may take over when humans become extinct, professor Tim Coulson said. Although a lot of factors would affect life on Earth in the future, he pointed out that octopuses might do well in a post-human world because of their intellect, flexibility, and survival skills.

An Oxford professor Says Octopuses Could Create a Civilization Like Atlantis

Professor claims that because of their exceptional intelligence, agility, curiosity, and communication abilities, octopuses are able to create cutting-edge technology. According to the Daily Mail, this would allow them to create an advanced underwater civilization akin to Atlantis, making octopuses viable options for occupying an ecological niche in a post-human world.

Although it is doubtful that octopuses would become full-land creatures, their intelligence has enabled them to adapt to many habitats and create novel foraging strategies. Even though mammals now rule the earth, octopuses are a serious candidate to surpass humans as the next intelligent species due to their sophisticated intellect, ability to utilize tools, and adaptability.
