Kanda Express train carrying about 1400 tonnes of onions from Nashik for consumption in delhi will reach Kishanganj station in delhi today on Sunday. Earlier, two rakes of Kanda Express (goods train) have already arrived in Delhi. The first rake came on 20 october and the second rake with 1333 tonnes of onions came on 14 November. onions are transported on a large scale by rail rakes to ensure reliable and cost-effective supply of onions to various areas from time to time.

Kanda Express will reach delhi today

This initiative has supported onion farmers of Nashik region with additional revenue through bulk transportation. This strategic change in rail transport not only supports consumers by stabilizing onion prices but also provides cooperatives with a cost-effective transport alternative to road.

Railways has started Shetkari Samriddhi to send perishable goods of farmers directly. Transportation of onions on such a large scale by rail will increase the availability of onions in Delhi. This initiative will increase the arrival of onions and the retail prices of onions will be stable in the markets. Currently, another train is being loaded in Nashik which includes 1400 tonnes of onions.

Initiative of Consumer Ministry

To control the prices of onions and maintain the availability of onions in the market, the Consumer Ministry had decided to run Kanda Express for cities with high demand for onions in october itself. The Consumer Ministry had initially decided to run only three rakes of goods trains to send onions from maharashtra to other parts of the country. Later, looking at its success and demand, the rakes were increased. onion is called Kanda in Marathi, so these goods trains have also been named Kanda Express.
