Saira Banu, the wife of AR Rahman, has said that she and her husband are no longer together. She confirmed her separation from the music maestro in a statement to the media on tuesday evening. For 29 years, the pair was wed.
 
In a statement given to india Today, “After many years of marriage, Mrs. saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. A R. Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time."

“Mrs. saira emphasized that she has taken this decision out of pain and agony. Mrs saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life," the statement added.

In 1995, rahman wed Saira. The marriage between the pair was planned. rahman disclosed that his mother arranged his marriage to her during an interview with simi garewal on her chat program. He acknowledged that he chose an arranged marriage since he did not have the time to go and choose a spouse for himself. The couple has three kids — two daughters, Khatija and Rahima, and a son named Ameen Rahman.
