Indian army Chief becomes General of nepal Army!
Continuing the decades-old tradition going on since 1950, nepal President Ramchandra Paudel conferred the honorary title of General of the nepal army to indian army Chief General upendra Dwivedi at a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan (Shital Bhawan) on thursday (November 21, 2024). General Dwivedi, leading a five-member delegation, arrived here on wednesday for a five-day official visit at the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart General ashok Sigdel.
On this occasion, the President presented General Dwivedi with a sword, insignia and certificate of honor order. Various dignitaries including prime minister K.P. Sharma Oli were present at the special ceremony. nepal army sources said that since 1950, there has been a tradition of giving honorary title of General to each other's army chiefs as part of the ongoing relationship between the armies of india and Nepal.
Discussion on furthering military bilateral relations between nepal and India
Officials said that earlier in the day, General Dwivedi met General Sigdel at the headquarters of the nepal army here and discussed matters related to cooperation between the two armies. indian Embassy sources said that both discussed furthering military bilateral relations between nepal and India.
General Dwivedi was also given a 'Guard of Honor'
The indian Embassy said that indicating the everlasting friendship between the two armies, General Dwivedi also planted a Rudraksha plant on the premises of the nepal army Headquarters in Kathmandu. Earlier in the morning, General Dwivedi paid tribute by laying a wreath at the Bir Smarak (Martyr Memorial) at the army Pavilion in Tundikhel, Kathmandu. He was also given a 'Guard of Honor' at the army Headquarters. During his visit, Dwivedi will visit the 'Army Staff College' in Shivapuri on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Officials said that they also plan to visit the hilly region by plane.
