Kalpana Soren, wife of Jharkhand's outgoing cm hemant Soren, has emerged as a powerful leader in the party by winning the election from Gandey assembly seat. politics was never Kalpana's first choice. Earlier this year, when hemant Soren was arrested by the ED, Kalpana entered politics. The victory in the assembly elections after the by-election has intensified the discussion whether Kalpana Soren will also be a part of the new cabinet.
After winning the election from the Gandey seat, Kalpana Soren shared her picture with husband hemant Soren and both sons in which she was showing the 'Win' sign. Despite the personal and political challenges posed by her husband's legal battles, 48-year-old Kalpana has shown herself to be a resilient and flamboyant leader. Kalpana emerged as a vocal personality in opposition to the BJP.
Kalpana's political journey gained momentum
Kalpana's leadership became prominent especially during the lok sabha elections, where she campaigned vigorously and led the JMM's efforts in Jharkhand, earning her support from tribal communities and others. Kalpana's political rise gained significant momentum after her husband's release from jail in July and hemant Soren's re-taking charge as chief minister. She emphasised that tribals by nature do not succumb to oppression.
Kalpana did not look back after the by-election
Kalpana's political journey began with the JMM's 51st foundation day celebrations in Giridih district on march 4, where she claimed that a conspiracy was hatched against her by opponents since the hemant Soren government came to power in 2019. In the Gandey by-election held simultaneously with the lok sabha elections in June, Kalpana defeated her bjp leader dilip kumar Verma by 27,149 votes and has not looked back since then.
