A much-awaited truce in the 14-month-old conflict between israel and Hezbollah in lebanon was proclaimed by US President Joe Biden.
Wednesday morning (02.00 GMT, 7.30 am IST) marked the implementation of the deal mediated by the united states and France. Hours after the Benjamin Netanyahu cabinet gave its approval to the agreement in israel, Biden announced the news in a white house televised speech.

It was a "historic" moment, according to Biden. He said, "Under the deal reached today, effective at 4 am tomorrow (Wednesday), local time, the fighting across the Lebanese-Israeli border will end."

As soon as the ceasefire is implemented, Biden stated that there will be a "permanent cessation of hostilities."

"This is intended to be an end to hostilities for good. He emphasized that the remnants of Hezbollah and other terrorist groups would not be permitted to pose a danger to Israel's security in the future.

"The announcement made today is a crucial step. Therefore, I commend the leaders of israel and lebanon for their brave decision to put a stop to the hostilities. It serves as a reminder that peace is achievable. "Repeat that: peace is achievable," he added.

However, Biden added, "We, along with france and others, will provide the necessary assistance to make sure this deal is implemented fully and effectively." He said that the united states would not send soldiers to the Israeli-Lebanese border.

Israel's security cabinet voted 10-1 late tuesday to endorse the truce. Benjamin Netanyahu's office issued a statement emphasizing that although israel appreciates the US contribution, it can take action in the event of a security danger.

In his speech from the Rose Garden, Biden claimed that while israel did not start the conflict, neither did the US nor the people of Lebanon. "I directed my teams to work with the governments of israel and lebanon to forge a ceasefire to bring the conflict between israel and Hezbollah to a close," stated the president.
