He took oath as the 14th chief minister of the state in a grand ceremony held in Ranchi. governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Soren. This is the fourth term of the jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader as CM. congress President mallikarjun Kharge, leader of Opposition in lok sabha rahul Gandhi, AAP National Convenor and former delhi cm Arvind Kejriwal, punjab cm Bhagwant Mann, West bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee were present during this time. Along with this, JMM National President Shibu Soren and his wife Roopi Soren were also present during the swearing-in ceremony.

In the recent assembly elections in jharkhand, hemant Soren won the Barhet seat by defeating BJP's Gamliel Hembram by a margin of 39,791 votes. The JMM-led india alliance retained its majority by securing 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, while the BJP-led nda won 24 seats.
