Reportedly the suspense over the new maharashtra chief minister is likely to end on wednesday as the bjp is slated to elect its legislative party leader in the legislative party meeting today. The bjp on monday named Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani as central observers for its maharashtra legislature party’s meeting, where the MLAs will elect their leader.
Perhaps the bjp has already announced that the new chief minister will take oath on december 5 at azad Maidan in mumbai in the presence of prime minister Narendra Modi and other leaders. Though the party has not made any formal announcement, a senior bjp leader on sunday claimed Devendra Fadnavis’ name has been finalised for the CM’s post.
Meanwhile, maharashtra caretaker chief minister Eknath Shinde, who returned to mumbai from his village a day ago after being “unwell,” cancelled all his appointments and meetings on monday after doctors advised him to take rest, prompting bjp leader devendra fadnavis to call him up to get an update on his health, sources told. On sunday, Shinde reiterated his earlier statement that the bjp would decide on the new chief minister and assured his full support, ruling out any differences in the alliance over the government formation. The bjp, which emerged as the single largest party with 132 seats in the recently-held elections, is proceeding cautiously, as the aspirations of its allies, especially Shiv Sena, are high.
