Legislators javed ali Khan and Ramji Lal suman asked whether the Center was thinking of making a declaration about the new pay commission in the Union Budget 2025–26, which is anticipated to be delivered on february 1, 2025. The issue also addressed whether the union government's financial situation limited its ability to update pay scales. The minister underlined, however, that this problem does not exist at this time because no plan is being considered.
Major disappointments for central govt employees and pensioners
About 50 lakh central government employees and 67 lakh pensioners would be surprised and disappointed by this event. They were hoping that the Modi administration would provide some good news for them in the next budget.
Many people anticipated that the february Budget would include a statement about the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, with the understanding that its recommendations would take effect on january 1, 2026. Every ten years, the Center has traditionally formed a new compensation commission. The 7th Pay Commission's term will expire on december 31, 2025, if the same schedule is followed.
What lies ahead for central govt employees and pensioners?
Central government employees and retirees should not give up hope, even if the finance ministry has made it clear that no proposal to establish a new pay commission is now being considered. This is because the 7th Pay Commission's tenure is expected to end in december 2025.
In a post-Budget interview conducted in July of this year following the release of the Union Budget 2024–25, T.V. Somanathan, the Union Finance Secretary at the time, was questioned on the establishment of the 8th Pay Commission. He said that since we are still in 2024 and the next pay commission is due in 2026, there is still time for a new one.
