Singer jailed for performing concert without a hijab...
A 27-year-old Iranian musician named Parastoo Ahmadi was arrested for doing a virtual concert on YouTube, according to a Times of israel story. In fact, Iranian musician Parastoo was imprisoned for not donning a hijab at a virtual concert. Iranian musician Parastoo Ahmady was in Sari city of Mazandaran province on saturday (December 14), roughly 280 kilometers from Tehran, iran, according to his attorney, Milad Panahipour.
Case filed following concert posting online
On Wednesday, december 11, 2024, Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmady shared a video of her virtual performance online. where she was spotted with four male musicians wearing a black dress without sleeves and no hijab. After which a case was lodged against the Iranian singer on thursday (December 12).
In the post that included her video, Parastoo said
On december 11, Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmady posted a video of her online performance to YouTube. "I am Parastu, a girl who wants to sing for the people I love," Parastoo wrote in a post that included the video. Singing for my homeland, which I adore, is a right I cannot disregard." She added, "Here in our beloved iran where history and our myths are intertwined, listen to my voice in this virtual concert and imagine your beautiful homeland." Over 1.6 million people have viewed these Iranian singer's virtual concerts thus far.
Two male musicians were also arrested in addition to the vocalist.
Two male musicians who were at the event, Sohail Faghih Nasiri and Ehsan Biraghdar, were also arrested in Tehran that same day, according to the report, which was also corroborated by Parastoo's attorney.
Iran has stringent restrictions pertaining to the hijab.
Iran's hijab restrictions are extremely stringent. Following the Islamic Revolution of 1979, the country's laws made it mandatory. Some women view the hijab as a limitation on their personal independence, while many wear it as a sign of their religious faith.
