Mohammed Mehtab was taken into custody by the Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday, december 14, after he allegedly assaulted a young girl and had her take off her hijab. The state's saharanpur district's Deoband is where the event took place. On Wednesday, december 11, Mehtab was a member of a violent crowd that beat a 17-year-old Muslim girl for allegedly "speaking" to a Hindu guy.

The victim was on her way home from her relative's residence on the fatal day. Her younger sister, who is around 16 years old, was with her. A man on a bike interrupted the two and asked for directions. Two males interrupted the young girls while they were describing the path, claiming they were talking to a Hindu man.

Soon after, the public harassment was joined by other Muslims. The girl was being held by her headscarf by a Muslim man who was filming her with his phone. The little girl was repeatedly slapped by another male. As she attempted to call her brother, one man confiscated her phone. According to a third Muslim guy, the victim purchased a "gift" for the "Hindu man." Only after it was discovered that the man who asked the girl and her sister for directions was not Hindu did the ordeal stop.

After being freed, they went to the police and complained. Claiming that we were talking to a Hindu man, they began to assemble additional people. Before long, more than a dozen men were all around us. "I got slapped too," the victim added.

The police filed a complaint under Sections 67 of the Information technology Act, Section 352 (intentional insult), and Section 115-2 (voluntarily causing harm) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

According to SP (rural) Sagar Jain, "We have filed a formal complaint.Mehtab has been taken into custody, and we are using the footage that went viral online to identify the other males.
