The district authorities in madhya pradesh said monday that the administration would begin filing formal complaints (FIRs) against charity donors on january 1, 2025, to rid indore of beggars. ashish Singh, the district collector, informed reporters that the government had previously issued an order outlawing begging in Indore.

"Until the end of this month (December), the city will continue our awareness campaign against begging. "A First Information Report (FIR) will also be filed against anyone found giving alms after january 1st," he stated.

"I appeal to all residents of indore not to become partners in the sin by giving alms to people," the official said.

The administration has in recent months exposed different gangs that make people beg and many of those involved in begging have also been rehabilitated, he said. The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has started a pilot project to make 10 cities of the country beggar-free, which includes Indore.

An Indore-based nonprofit is supporting the campaign by offering to provide up to six months of accommodation and help those impacted find employment. Narayan Singh Kushwaha, the social welfare minister for madhya pradesh, talked extensively on the government's responsibilities in this area. He said, "We are really trying hard to free people from begging." As indore begins to take its streets seriously, discussions about this new law are undoubtedly entangled with demands for harsh legislation, rehabilitation, and reinterpretation.
