Some 1,200 people had to be evacuated from the eiffel tower after a fire broke out at the iconic paris landmark. French police told local media that flames were spotted in the elevator shaft between the first and second floors. Firefighters believe the blaze started because a device near an elevator cable overheated, Boulevard Voltaire reported, citing a police source. The fire has now been brought under control, the source said, despite firefighters struggling to get to the source of the fire, as reported by The Mirror. The attraction was reportedly closed to tourists while the blaze was being put out.
