The indian air Force (IAF) has committed to fully supporting the civil administration to ensure the successful organization of maha Kumbh 2025, which is one of the largest religious events in the world, scheduled to occur in Prayagraj. The Central air Command will oversee the operational and logistical assistance, promoting civil aviation and offering humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR) coverage. These initiatives are designed to aid the Uttar Pradesh government in effectively overseeing the colossal gathering.
air Force Station Bamrauli will function as the center for continuous civil and charter flight operations from december 20, 2024, to february 28, 2025. Its Instrument Landing System (ILS) will be kept at CAT-II standards to support smooth operations during the winter season when visibility may be low.
The IAF has also contributed to infrastructure developments in Prayagraj, such as the creation of a four-lane highway linking kaushambi to the airport and a railway overbridge at Begum Bazar. To facilitate these upgrades, the IAF has donated land and modified the landing threshold of Runway 12 at Bamrauli. They have also worked in collaboration with the Airports Authority of india (AAI) to enhance the civil airport terminal.
A Rescue Coordination Team will be positioned at the mela venue, equipped with modern equipment to deliver first aid, triage patients, and conduct casualty evacuations during emergencies. Group Captain Samir Gangakhedkar, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Defence in Prayagraj, highlighted the IAF's dedication to national service, disaster management, and public safety.
