In Patna, on december 26, a man operating a private school in east Champaran district, Bihar, was allegedly shot dead by his neighbor on Wednesday. The victim, Mohammad Irshad, a school operator from Rampurwa village under the Dumaria Ghat police jurisdiction, sustained gunshot wounds to his head and back when he was shot by his neighbor, Mohammad Shahabuddin. After the shooting, Irshad was able to make his way to his uncle's home, but the gate was closed. Villagers, along with district police, transported Irshad to a private nursing home in Motihari for medical attention, where he eventually died from his injuries. Officers from Dumaria Ghat police station and Chakia SDPO arrived at the location after being notified. "We have commenced an investigation into the incident. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been summoned to assist in the inquiry. We are actively working to apprehend the perpetrator," stated Swarn Prabhat, Superintendent of police for east Champaran. According to the police, Irshad was en route to his school when his neighbor Shahabuddin confronted him and fired at him from a close distance. Although he was injured, Irshad reached his uncle's house but collapsed there. Shahabuddin then came and shot him in the head. Following the act, he fled from the location. The investigation revealed that Mohammad Irshad had a history of conflict with Shahabuddin, which originated from a previous disagreement concerning the construction of a balcony. Recently, Irshad and Shahabuddin had quarreled about the removal of a balcony from Shahabuddin's residence, as their properties are adjacent to each other. Although the issue was previously resolved with the involvement of a Panchayat, both parties were reportedly coexisting peacefully afterward. "Despite the earlier resolution, underlying tensions might have lingered, possibly leading to this incident," Prabhat remarked. The police are thoroughly investigating the event, including any potential motives linked to previous disputes. "We have retrieved the deceased's body and sent it for an autopsy. An FIR for murder under the applicable sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sahita (BNS) has been filed at Dumaria Ghat police station. We are conducting raids to capture the accused," Prabhat added.
