Maharashtra arrests 17 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.The maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), in collaboration with local law enforcement, apprehended 17 individuals from Bangladesh, which included 14 men and three women, for unlawfully entering and residing in India. The detentions occurred following operations conducted in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik. Acting on a tip-off, the initiative was launched to pinpoint and address illegal immigration within the state.
"The ATS executed the operation in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik this week with assistance from local police. A total of 17 Bangladeshi individuals, consisting of 14 males and three females, were detained for entering india without approval and living in the country without the necessary documents," an official reported to news agency PTI.
Investigations disclosed that individuals used forged documentation, including Aadhaar and PAN cards, to create false identities and evade detection while residing in the country.
At least 10 cases have been filed under the Foreigners Act of 1946, the Passport (Entry into India) Act of 1950, and the Passport Act of 1967. Ongoing investigations are being conducted at the relevant police stations.
