Alka Lamba wrote on Instagram, "How can it be appropriate for Sardar manmohan singh ji's last rites to be held at Nigambodh Ghat? Doing so would be against his honour, this has never happened with any former prime minister before, former prime minister Atal ji is a recent example of this, whose last rites and memorial were built at the proper place, this decision of the central government is unfortunate and hurtful." The home Ministry said in a statement, "The government has decided that Dr. manmohan singh will be cremated with state honors." It said that the Defense Ministry has been requested to make arrangements for the last rites with full military honors.

Meanwhile, the congress said that the party's national president mallikarjun Kharge spoke to PM narendra modi and Union home minister amit shah over the phone. It is worth noting that former prime minister manmohan singh breathed his last at 9:51 pm on thursday (26 December) at AIIMS in Delhi. He was 92 years old. The Union home Ministry has announced that seven days of national mourning will be observed across the country in honor of the former prime minister and during this time the national flag will be flown at half-mast all over india will remain.
