The total voluntary contribution to the PM Cares Fund in the financial year 2022-23 fell to Rs 912 crore. This is the lowest amount since the formation of this public service trust in march 2020 after the Kovid-19 epidemic. This clearly means that after the Covid period, people, institutions and foreign donors have reduced monetary contributions to the PM Cares Fund.
Highest contribution was in 2020-21
The audit statements given on the website of the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARES) Fund show that voluntary contributions reached a high of Rs 7184 crore in 2020-21. After this, it came down to Rs 1,938 crore in 2021-22. It declined further in 2022-23 as the threat of Covid subsided. FY 2022-23 is the last year for which details are available on the website.
Foreign contributions to PM CARES Fund also saw a sharp decline
Foreign contributions also fell sharply, from a peak of Rs 495 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 40 crore and Rs 2.57 crore in the next two years, respectively. The total expenditure in FY 2022-23 was around Rs 439 crore, of which Rs 346 crore was used by 'PM CARES for Children'. It is a government initiative to aid children who lost their parents or legal guardians in the Covid pandemic. According to the statement, about Rs 92 crore was spent on the purchase of oxygen concentrators.
