On Tuesday, december 31, pinarayi vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, denounced efforts to present the social reformer saint sree Narayana Guru as an advocate of Sanatana Dharma, which he claimed was nothing more than the caste-based Varnashrama Dharma.

Speaking at a Sivagiri Mutt-hosted seminar, pinarayi vijayan stated that a concerted effort is underway to position sree Narayana Guru as the spokesperson and advocate for Sanatana Dharma. "A speaker at the Sivagiri pilgrimage conference made this claim. According to pinarayi vijayan, "the misconception needs to be corrected here since the Guru conceived of the Sivagiri pilgrimage as a platform for debate."

A monk named sree Narayana Guru declared a new dharma for the modern day, breaking with the idea of Sanatana Dharma. What does Sanatana dharma mean? It's the Varnashrama Dharma, that's all. By questioning and going beyond Varnashrama dharma, the guru's new generation humanistic dharma aims to stay relevant to the times," he stated.

According to Vijayan, religions did not define the dharma of the Guru. Has any religion ever asserted that a person's goodness is sufficient, independent of their faith? No. Has any religion ever claimed that all religions have a common essence? No. So what is obvious? Beyond religion, the Guru promoted a humanistic perspective that captures the essence of mankind. It would be a huge disrespect to the Guru to attempt to maintain it inside the parameters of the everlasting principle," he remarked.

According to pinarayi vijayan, Varnashrama dharma is founded on the idea of four categories (Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras) and is therefore equivalent to or an essential component of Sanatana Dharma. What was upheld by it? The jobs were caste-based. The appeal to challenge this system came from sree Narayana Guru. How, therefore, can a guru support Sanatana Dharma? Throughout his austere life, the Guru challenged and disobeyed the Chaturvarnya system. How is it possible for a Guru who said that there was only one caste, one religion, and one god for humanity to support Sanatana Dharma, which was developed within the confines of a single faith? He said that the Guru promoted a religion that opposed the caste system.

Pinarayi Vijayan also applauded Satchidananda Swami's proposal to stop requesting that worshippers take off their clothes. "This plan has the potential to become a historic social change if it is presented with great respect. This strategy is likely to have an impact on several additional houses of worship in the future. Although no one should be coerced into making changes, he acknowledged that many of our nation's traditions have changed throughout time.

V Muraleedharan, a former Union minister of State and leader of the bharatiya janata party (BJP), said that Pinarayi had disrespected sree Narayana Guru's devotees and Sanatana dharma with his remarks at Sivagiri Mutt.

He stated that the remarks were a continuation of tamil Nadu deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin's demand for the abolition of Sanatana dharma last year and that attempts to convert it to casteism would not be tolerated in Kerala. Muraleedharan described the latest comments as "Communist propaganda" and claimed that under Pinarayi Vijayan's leadership, Kerala's Hindu population has had hitherto unheard-of difficulties.
