It is known that the film is adapted from the hollywood film Breakdown. The problem is that it has not been properly purchased. Paramount, which produced Breakdown, is asking for Rs. 85 crores for the remake rights. Since that is half the budget of Vidamuyarchi, Lyca has reportedly decided to give Vidamuyarchi's foreign rights to the company in return. Negotiations for this are currently underway.
