According to students, over the last three months, some 300 recordings were captured, and hostel employees—particularly the kitchen staff—were suspected. Students' suspicions about illegal recordings in the restroom led to the discovery of the problem. Infuriated, they assembled outside the campus to call for responsibility and justice.
Joining the demonstrations, the akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demanded a comprehensive inquiry and severe penalties for the offenders. The medchal police stepped in to control the scene and gave the kids their word that a thorough investigation would be conducted. Authorities promised that anyone involved would face severe consequences. In the meanwhile, students have demanded increased security in the dorms to stop future invasions of privacy.
Tensions have increased since the college administration has not yet issued a statement. To determine the entire scope of the tragedy and find the perpetrators, investigations are still underway. Similar demonstrations took place at SR gudlavalleru Engineering college in krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, earlier in august 2024, following reports that a concealed camera had been found in the restroom of the ladies' dorm and that films of it were making the rounds among the male students in the boys' dorm. Concerning that event, a final-year engineering student was taken into custody.
