Following claims that covert cameras had been deployed to surreptitiously film recordings of female students using the dormitory restroom, protests erupted at CMR Engineering college in medchal on Wednesday.
According to students, over the last three months, some 300 recordings were captured, and hostel employees—particularly the kitchen staff—were suspected. Students' suspicions about illegal recordings in the restroom led to the discovery of the problem. Infuriated, they assembled outside the campus to call for responsibility and justice.
Joining the demonstrations, the akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demanded a comprehensive inquiry and severe penalties for the offenders. The medchal police stepped in to control the scene and gave the kids their word that a thorough investigation would be conducted. Authorities promised that anyone involved would face severe consequences. In the meanwhile, students have demanded increased security in the dorms to stop future invasions of privacy.

Concerning that event, a final-year engineering student was taken into custody.
