Boney Kapoor Refers to jr ntr as a ‘New Face’ in war 2;

In 2024, while bollywood faced challenges in gaining traction, both telugu and malayalam films were flourishing. Among the five indian films that grossed the most this year, telugu hits such as pushpa 2: The Rule, kalki 2898 AD, and Devara: Part 1 stood out, with bollywood managing to place only stree 2. In this context, a spirited discussion took place in a recent Galatta Plus roundtable where prominent producers evaluated the present landscape of indian cinema.

In the dialogue, experienced bollywood producer boney kapoor highlighted the widespread allure of quality films by mentioning K Balachander’s iconic 1981 film Ek Duuje Ke Liye. When actor siddharth inquired if a fresh face and director would be welcomed in today’s Hindi-speaking areas, boney replied, “Of course! Why do you think aditya chopra chose tarak (Jr NTR) for his movie (War 2)?” producer Naga vamsi couldn’t help but laugh, pointing out that jr ntr is definitely not a “new face.” siddharth further clarified, stating, “You’re referring to the biggest superstar of the (south) film industry collaborating with the biggest star (Hrithik Roshan) of the (north) film industry and the largest producer in India.” Interestingly, boney Kapoor’s daughter janhvi kapoor recently worked alongside jr ntr in koratala Siva’s Devara: Part 1, which also starred Saif ali Khan, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, and Shine tom Chacko in key roles. With a worldwide gross of Rs 421 crore, Devara solidified Jr NTR’s dominance at the box office.
