He spends the day working as a recruiter for a private firm in noida, Uttar Pradesh. At night, he transforms into a model from the united states who is traveling to india for introspection.

He had protection from his day work, and he earned the money through extortion and manipulation throughout the night. Tushar Singh Bisht, 23, was arrested on friday in the east delhi neighborhood of Shakarpur for using dating apps to deceive more than 700 women by pretending to be a model.

Tushar, a delhi inhabitant, with a business administration (BBA) bachelor's degree. He had worked as a technical recruiter for a private firm in noida for the last three years.

His mother stays at home, his sister works in Gurugram, and his father drives. Despite maintaining a steady profession, Tushar fell into the realm of cybercrime, driven mostly by passion for women and riches.

Modus Operandi

Tushar made fictitious accounts on well-known dating and social media sites like Bumble and Snapchat using a virtual foreign mobile number that he obtained via an app. Using a fake identity that included images and narratives taken from a real Brazilian model, he pretended to be a freelance model from the US traveling to India. He mostly targeted ladies between the ages of 18 and 30, making friends with them on social sites.

Under the pretense of friendship, Tushar would ask for their phone numbers and private images or videos once he had earned their trust. He stored the images on his phone without his victims knowing. According to authorities, these actions began as personal entertainment but eventually developed into a planned extortion plot.

The authorities claim that Tushar blackmailed women into paying him money by using these images. He would threaten to post the victim's obscene material online or sell it on the dark web if they didn't pay him.

The victims

Police have found that Tushar interacted with more than 200 women on whatsapp and Snapchat and more than 500 on Bumble. He utilized the wealth of private information he had amassed to blackmail his victims. On december 13, 2024, a second-year delhi University student complained to the Cyber police Station, bringing attention to one such incident. She met Tushar on Bumble in january of that year, which marked the start of her ordeal. He identified himself as a model from the US and struck up a conversation that eventually evolved into private whatsapp and Snapchat conversations.

The victim gave him access to private images and videos throughout their conversations. He constantly avoided her under different guises when she asked to meet in person. Shortly after, he threatened to sell or release the content if she didn't pay him, and he gave her one of her private movies. The student first gave in to the pressure and paid a little sum while citing her financial limitations as a student. But she was forced to confide in her family and file a formal complaint due to Tushar's persistent demands.

The Investigation

ACP Arvind Yadav oversaw the formation of a squad from the West delhi Cyber police Station. The team was able to track down Tushar's activities and identify him as the accused by combining technological analysis with intelligence collection. He was arrested during a quick raid in Shakarpur.

During the operation, the police found 13 credit cards from different banks, a virtual international mobile number connected to his illegal operations, and a cell phone with damning information on it. Additionally, more than 60 whatsapp communication logs with women from delhi and the surrounding areas were recovered by the authorities. According to preliminary investigations, Tushar had similarly extorted at least four other women in addition to the complaint.
