The delhi government honored the country's legendary chess player Tania Sachdev on sunday (04 January). delhi Chief minister Atishi said that the AAP government is committed to nurturing the emerging sports talents in Delhi. Tania Sachdev expressed her disappointment on social media in december last year over the delhi government not recognizing her achievements.

delhi cm Atishi wrote on the social media platform X, "Today the delhi government honored Tania Sachdev. She is a key member of the indian team that won the gold medal in the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024. She also played chess with some of our young and future chess champions from delhi government schools."

She further wrote, "When we set out on a journey in any field, we look for role models. For the young champions of delhi, Tania is that inspiration. Today's felicitation is not just about honoring her. It is also about inspiring students, especially young girls, to follow in her footsteps and aim for the gold medal.''

AAP government committed to nurture sports talent - Atishi

cm Atishi also said that the AAP government is committed to nurturing emerging sports talent in Delhi. He said, "In 2024-25 alone, more than 2,000 students participated in chess tournaments, while 65 students received special chess training at Chhatrasal Stadium. Through schemes like cash incentives and Mission Excellence, we have spent Rs 98 crore since 2018 to empower athletes in various sports. Along with this, he also said that we look forward to Tania Sachdev's continued support in inspiring Delhi's young talents and promoting the next generation of chess champions.
