HMPV is a prevalent respiratory virus-no need to panic!

In response to news of an increase in cases in china and four instances in India, Union health minister jp nadda stated on monday that the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), a respiratory virus that was originally discovered in 2001, is not new and has been circulating throughout the world for years. Medical experts claim that HMPV is not a new virus. It spreads through inhalation and can affect persons of all ages. "The winter and early spring months are when the virus spreads the most," Nadda stated.

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and the health Ministry are keeping a careful eye on the situation in china and its surrounding nations. He went on to say, "The World health Organization (WHO) has taken note of the situation and will provide us with its report soon."

The minister added that there has been no increase in respiratory illnesses in India, according to data reviewed by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program and the ICMR. According to him, a Joint Monitoring Group led by the director General of health Services met on january 4 to evaluate the situation in order to guarantee readiness.

"The nation's monitoring networks and health systems are always on guard, making sure the nation is prepared to react quickly to any new health issues. There's nothing to be concerned about. "We are keeping a careful eye on the situation," the health minister assured.

Usually transmitted by respiratory droplets, HMPV is more active during the winter months. Experts advise practicing good hygiene and seeking medical advice if serious symptoms appear.

Four HMPV cases have been identified nationwide thus far, with two occurring in Bengaluru, one in Kolkata, and one in Gujarat.
