Is a 5000 rupee note really going to be issued?

Now the reply of PIB's fact check unit has come on this message going viral on social media. PIB has clarified in its post that RBI is not going to issue any such note. This news is completely false. At present, only 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 2000 notes are legal tender in the country. However, from the year 2023, RBI has stopped printing 2 thousand notes and has also appealed to the people that if they have 2000 notes, then deposit it in the bank.

In the post going viral on social media, the user has written, '5000 New Note. New notes of five thousand rupees are going to be issued. RBI has given this information. RBI will soon issue new notes of 5 thousand rupees.' However, refuting this post, the fact check team of PIB has given information on X and other social media platforms that this news is completely fake and RBI is not going to issue any such note.

There used to be 5 thousand notes earlier

It is not that there have never been 5000 notes in India. 5000 rupee notes were printed for the first time in the country in the year 1938, at that time the british ruled. Later it was discontinued in 1946. However, after independence, 5000 rupee notes were printed once again in the country in 1954 and it was printed by the government of independent India. But, in 1978, 5000, 1000 and 10000 rupee notes were withdrawn.
