On january 20, donald trump will take the oath of office as the next president of the United States. trump has been the President of the united states for two terms. World leaders are expected to attend the inaugural event in Washington, D.C.

Leaders of nations including China, Argentina, Italy, El Salvador, and hungary have received invitations. Nonetheless, political debates have been triggered by the omission of indian prime minister Narendra Modi's name from this list.

Why wasn't narendra modi invited?
Donald trump won his second term as president last year after defeating Kamala Harris. prime minister narendra modi traveled to New York to attend the UN General assembly before the election. In a news conference at the time, trump had stated that he wanted to meet with prime minister Modi because he thought it would improve his chances of winning the election.

International leaders including prime minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy, President Javier Milei of Argentina, and prime minister Viktor Orbán of hungary were either meeting with or endorsing Trump. trump supporters and the American people at large could have received a powerful message from a meeting with Modi. Trump's proposal to meet with Modi, however, presented india with a serious conundrum.

Effect on US-India Relations
The 'Howdy Modi' incident in 2019 was viewed as a significant political blunder. Furthermore, India-US ties may have suffered if Modi had met trump and Kamala harris had won the election. Thus, the meeting between Modi and trump never took place.

Trump's annoyance
Trump was reportedly upset with Modi at the time for turning down the meeting. Now that he has won the election and will take office on january 20, trump has invited the majority of leaders who publicly supported him or shared his views.

India's Equitable Position
High-ranking indian government officials have stated that no indian representation will be present at Trump's inauguration. One of the government's main goals is to keep relations between the Democratic and Republican parties balanced. india and the united states have never limited their relationship to a single political party. india has opted to preserve diplomatic equilibrium even if Modi and trump get along well.

What Comes Next?
There will not be any lasting effects from PM Modi's absence at the inauguration. india and the US will continue to have a solid relationship regardless of Trump.
