Use UPI in dubai Duty-Free: NPCI international Partners with UAE-Based Magnati

NPCI international Payments Limited (NIPL) announced a partnership with Magnati, a UAE-based payment solutions provider, to enhance QR-based Unified Payments Interface (UPI) merchant payments via point-of-sale (POS) terminals in the Middle East.

This collaboration aims to expand the QR-based UPI merchant payment network in the uae, allowing more merchants to offer UPI as a payment option for indian travellers. NIPL, the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of india (NPCI), highlighted that UPI is one of the world’s most successful real-time payment systems, processing over 16 billion transactions in december 2024 alone.

With this partnership, NIPL aims to provide seamless payment solutions to over 12 million indians who travel to dubai and the uae annually. The integration of an indian payment system into the global digital payments network will enable uae merchants to cater to the growing indian consumer base.

Initially, UPI acceptance will be available at dubai Duty-Free, enhancing the shopping and payment experience for indian tourists. The partnership is also set to expand into key merchant sectors such as retail, hospitality, transport, and supermarkets.
