Greeshma, 24, was convicted on friday by a sessions court in Neyyattinkara, in the thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, of killing Sharon Raj, with whom she had a romantic relationship, in 2022. On Saturday, the severity of the penalty will be announced. The court found Greeshma's uncle Nirmmalakumaran Nair guilty of aiding and abetting the crime but cleared Greeshma's mother Sindhu.

The prosecution claims that Greeshma, who lives in Kanyakumari, and Sharon, who lives in Parassala in thiruvananthapuram, had been friends since 2021 when she was a postgraduate english student and he was in his final year of undergraduate studies.

Despite their romance, Greeshma's family arranged for her to marry a military commander in march 2022, and she agreed to the arrangement. The prosecution claims that greeshma had intended to murder Sharon, with whom she had maintained a connection while accepting the marriage proposal, as her wedding date drew near.

According to the prosecution, she made many attempts to poison Sharon and conducted in-depth internet research on the physiological effects of medications. She once dissolved a number of pills in water and left it for him to consume. She also gave him tablet-laced drink. Investigators discovered that she even challenged him to drink juice because it didn't have the desired impact.

Since Sharon had survived all of this, she made the decision to utilize other substances.

According to the prosecution, greeshma invited Sharon to her home on october 14, 2022, about a month before she was to wed the military commander, and gave him a medical ayurvedic drink in which she had mixed some herbicide.

Sharon did not detect any peculiar taste in the ayurvedic mixture, which is typically bitter. However, after leaving Greeshma's residence, he started to feel ill and puked many times that night, which led to his hospitalization.

Sharon, 23, passed away on october 25 from multiple organ failure while receiving care at Thiruvananthapuram's Medical college Hospital. He had informed a friend that greeshma had "cheated" on him and expressed concern that she had poisoned him before he passed away. His relatives lodged a police report following his passing.

Greeshma was arrested on october 31 and got bail nearly a year later, in september 2023. Her mother and uncle were also arrested on suspicion of abetting the crime and destroying evidence.

The case was registered under IPC sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting to murder), 328 (causing hurt by poison), 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence and giving false evidence to screen offender), 203 (giving false information) and 34 (criminal act done in furtherance of common intention).
