Fearing Trump's orders, indian students leaving jobs?
As soon as Donald Trump's second term as the President of America began, the problems of immigrants started increasing. While illegal immigrants are being dropped across the border in military planes, the rules are also being strictly enforced for legal immigrants. In such a situation, indians living legally in America are also afraid of deportation. indian students studying here have started leaving their part-time jobs due to this fear.
Actually, under the rules of F-1 visa, foreign students studying in America are allowed to work for a maximum of 20 hours in a week. They can do this job only in the campus of their institute. However, students also work outside the campus against the rules to meet their expenses. Now after Trump's strictness on immigration rules, students have started leaving their off-campus part-time jobs.
'I don't want to take risk'
The Times of india has talked to some such students. One such student is arjun who is graduating from Illinois University. He says, 'I used to work in a small cafe after college to meet my monthly expenses. I used to get 7 dollars an hour from there. I used to work 6 hours a day. It was a good arrangement. But last week I left that job. I do not want deportation due to unauthorized work. I cannot take this risk.'
'We friends have decided not to work anymore'
Neha, another indian student doing Masters in New York, says, 'I and my friends have decided not to work anymore. This is a difficult decision but we do not want deportation. We cannot put our student visa in danger. My parents have sacrificed a lot to send me here.'
The trump administration is strict about immigrants
Donald trump issued several executive orders just after taking oath as President on january 20. These included orders to expel illegal immigrants from America as soon as possible and to strictly follow the rules made for legal immigrants. On friday itself, two military planes from America dropped 160 illegal immigrants across the border to Guatemala.
