Republic Day Parade: Do all states get equal opportunity?
India is celebrating its 76th Republic Day today on 26 January. Our Constitution came into force on this day in the year 1950. But do you know why we celebrate Republic Day on 26 January? And are all the states given the opportunity to display their cultural tableaux in the Republic Day Parade? Every year on Republic Day, different states, union territories and government ministries take out their tableaux. The theme of this year 2025 is - "Golden India: heritage and Development".
How many states and union territories got permission?
15 states and union territories will present their colorful tableaux in the grand Republic Day parade on the Kartavya Path of the capital Delhi. These states are - Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Dadra nagar Haveli and Daman Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Apart from these states, 15 central ministries and departments will also showcase the progress and achievements of the country through their tableaux.
Assam's tableau was not seen on the path of duty this time too?
This year too, Assam's tableau will not be seen in the grand parade on the path of duty in delhi on Republic Day. This is the second consecutive year when Assam's tableau could not be a part of this parade. This is because there is a 'rotation policy' for the states participating in the parade, under which every state is given a chance in turn. This time it is not Assam's turn.
Under the 'Rotation Plan', every state and union territory will get a chance to show its tableau in the Republic Day parade within three years (2024-2026). 28 states have agreed to this plan. Assam's tableau will be seen on the path of duty in 2026.
But, this does not mean that this year the audience was deprived of Assam's spectacular tableau. The assam government has shown two UNESCO World heritage Sites of the state - Charaideo Moidam and Kaziranga National Park in its tableau. Along with this, the tableau will also give a glimpse of Assam's rich history and culture. This tableau will be displayed in 'Bharat Parv' to be held at the red Fort from january 26 to january 31.
