Despite resistance from certain political parties and religious organizations, uttarakhand will become the first state in independent india to adopt the Uniform Civil Code today, january 27, 2025. According to a statement from Dhami, all the necessary preparations have been finished to put the UCC into effect, including obtaining permission for the rules governing its use and formal training.
"UCC is just an offering made by our state in the great 'yagya' being performed by the prime minister to make the country a developed, organized, harmonious, and self-reliant nation," Dhami was quoted as saying by PTI.
In the lead-up to the 2022 assembly elections, when the bjp swept to power for a second consecutive term, one of their main promises was to implement the legislation. Since the state's founding in 2000, no other party has held onto power.
Dhami even claimed that the party's dedication to passing the UCC was the reason for the unprecedented mandate.

"This is nothing but an attempt to fast-track the process, to have a pilot project, before you can impose... because you don't have a consensus," congress spokesman abhishek singhvi told PTI on monday in response to a question on the implementation of UCC in Uttarakhand. Thus, you proceed as though you were initiating a trial project.
